Services
I offer structural and line editing services, desk-editing and ghostwriting. I’m also a fast and experienced magazine features writer and copy and promotional content writer.
Editing
I love editing. I relish the challenge of a manuscript that needs a fresh pair of eyes, and creative vision to shape it into the best version of itself.
Whether you’re a publisher in need of a radical structural edit, or an author seeking a desk-editor as your manuscript grows, I can help. I’ll work to ensure a consistent tone of voice and clear communication of your ideas and story.
I’ve worked on leadership, self-help, wellbeing, memoir, and educational projects, supporting major publishers and a wide range of thought-leaders to tell their stories with confidence.
Ghostwriting
I’ve ghostwritten and desk-edited a wide range of books, including bestsellers, for a fascinating range of people. The ghostwriting process is collaborative, creative and fun. I am flexible in the way I approach ghosting, and it takes different forms depending on the author, publisher and project.
Sometimes we start with an idea and little more, and other times, there may be lots of existing material to work with. Either way, there is lots of discussion and the drafts travel to and fro, ensuring your story is as compelling and polished as possible, with a final proof you are proud of.
Book Concept
Many authors come to me with the germ of an idea, but a block on turning it into something more defined. Working together, we can scope out a compelling concept, putting flesh on the bones of your book pitch. This can include sample chapters, or may be a bigger picture chapter plan for you to take forward.
When I’m working with authors to refine their book concept, I draw on coaching skills I use as a therapist (my other job) to remove the psychological blocks that get in the way of storytelling.
I also work for publishers who want to generate creative book concepts to pitch to authors and potential authors.
Journalism
Before I worked on books, I was a magazine writer and features editor. I worked at Hearst UK for a decade on two glossy women’s titles, where I commissioned and edited features, and managed a small team. Since then, I have freelanced for a wide range of publications including: Red, The Simple Things, Psychologies, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and many others. I still write the occasional feature, and particularly enjoy interviewing thought leaders and writing about wellbeing and mental health.
Content and Copy
I have worked as a freelancer and head of content for two south-west-based marketing agencies: Estrella Ventures and Spot Dev. I continue to take on occasional copywriting work and long-form content and sponsored content commissions.
Brands and agencies I have written for include: Dyson, The Post Office, The Police, The National Lottery, Three, Twinings, Lipton, Premier Inn, Durex, Ink, Sunouse Creative, Reach.
